Gru faces his old nemesis, Maxime Le Mal, voiced by Will Ferrell. Maxime escapes from prison and seeks revenge against Gru and his family. To protect them, the AVL moves the family to a safe location with new identities. Meanwhile, their teenage neighbour girl, Poppy Prescott, an aspiring villain voiced by Joey King, discovers their true identities and involves them in a daring theft. At the same time, some of Gru's Minions gain superpowers and become ‘Mega Minions’, leading to comical and chaotic situations.
